Worship News On
Sundays Childrens Worship at St. Thomas Its not called Sunday School here at St. Thomas! We call it Childrens Worship because we offer a creative and age-appropriate experience for our youngest church members, while the adults are in the church experiencing their own worship session. The kids go to school all week, so who wants to go to SCHOOL on Sunday too?! We offer two programs this year. For children ages 4-10, we host a Godly Play program. Godly Play is designed for children this age, with its storytelling and creative play agenda. A storyteller moves wooden figures around a scene to tell a Bible story to the children. A Wonder Session is then experienced to allow both child and storyteller to wonder together about the meaning of the story. Creative play follows, and then the children join the congregation for the Holy Eucharist in the church.. The Teens in our congregation are enjoying the use of their own personal Teen Devotional Bibles. They gather on Sunday mornings to hear the Godly Play story and then move to a discussion suited just for them. With lessons taken from their Teen Bibles, base on the subject of their choice (i.e., jealousy, school, temptations, etc.), these teens are exploring the bible and its effectiveness as a tool for daily living. Very cool! Join us each week, during the regular school year calendar, for our Childrens Worship Program at 10:00 A.M. on Sunday mornings. Youll be glad you checked it out. We welcome guests at any time! If you have questions about the program, please call Judith Dabanian or Sabrina Taylor. CHILDREN’S WORSHIP REPORT – 2009 The Children’s Worship Program at St. Thomas began classes on September 20th, 2009. Classes are held for children ages 5 – 12. Classes continue for the children each Sunday, save for Holidays which are Thanksgiving weekend, the Sunday after Christmas, and Memorial Day weekend. They begin at 10A.M. and continue for about 45 minute after which the children join their parents in church. We have used some of the Godly Play curriculum, but are also using a new program called the One Room School House. This program is geared for multiple ages of children in a one room setting. The One Room School House includes Bible reading and responsive readings for the class, cross word puzzles, Bible story centered crafts, and learning Bible verses. The lessons before Advent are from the Old Testament and those after Christmas focus on the New Testament. The Children’s Worship program is supported by a wonderful group of women who rotate teaching Sundays. Volunteer teachers are Rebecca Sherry, Jan Mans, Nancy Sutherland, Jean Pendell and myself. This year’s Christmas Pageant was presented December 20th with Jasmine and Nicholas Abernathy, Andrea Vidusic, and John Krupa. Rachel Kern and Anna Hawley also helped and Emily Krupa was the narrator. The Children’s Worship program is scheduled to close on June 6th, 2010. our Church School Grow! Half
the families in your neighborhood have no ongoing
relationship with a church. At the same
time, most parents want their children to grow up
with strong values and faith in God. So, if
you know of an unchurched family with children in
your neighborhood, why not invite them to bring
their kids to St. Thomas? They're probably
just sitting there, waiting for you to ask! Youth Program Reception for the 2008 Gradutes sponsored by the Women of St. Thomas Children's Program Christmas Pageant and Children's Bell Choir |
